12/19/14 - "1st"

Hi!
Hello!
How are you!

My vacation is almost over; I go back to work on Monday.
Boo!
I am really sad about that...
Darn it, why didn't i win the lottery while I was out?!
Stupid lottery!!!
I guess it would have helped a little if I had actually played, huh? LOL

Anyway, despite being off for the last 7 days, I only scrapped once!
And here is the layout I made (click on image to enlarge):

"1st"
Journaling: "First photos of the New Year. Packing away Christmas January 1st 2014"

A couple of things about this layout:
I used the December 15th "Stuck?!" sketch

and
Everything on here is scraps except for the BG paper and small printed banners.

Okay, that's all from me today...Netflix is calling my name!
Hahahahahahaha!
Later, friends!

12/15/14 - CPC: "Lite-Brite"

Happy Monday to you, my Bloggy Peeps!
I am in an amazingly great mood this Monday morning because... I am on vacation all week!
Whoo-hoo! ::proceeds w/ Happy Dance::
I always take a week off around Christmas so that I can get last minute Christmas stuff done as well as spend some time w/ my kids when they are on Christmas Break from school.  Well, this year only one is technically on "Christmas Break", the other is all grown up, graduated,  and a working man...but my being home allows me to squeeze in some quality time w/ him as well.

To kick off my awesome week, I am sharing the current challenge over at "Child's Play Challenges".

The inspiration for this challenge is the childhood toy "Lite Brite":

I was inspired to scrap photos of the evolution of our decorated Christmas tree in 2013, which included lots of lights (click on image to enlarge):

"Cut, Fluff, Decorate, Done"

You have until the end of the month to link up a project inspired by this CPC challenge or the challenge we presented on 12.01.14.

Besides the "CPC" challenge, I was also inspired by the following:

"Use your Stuff" challenges require you to use stashed items: everything on my layout, except the alphas is over a year old ( all the papers are approximately 10 years old).

Now I need to bring the 'party down a bit by sharing a some bad news: this is CPC's final challenge.
The blog is closing down after this month.
It's sad when good things come to an end, but sometimes that's just the way it goes.
I hope you have enjoyed the inspiration CPC has provided over the years... I know I have and I will miss being a part of it.

12/02/14 - CPC: "The Polar Express"

Hi, All!
I'm a day late.... but "better late than never", right?!

Today I am sharing the current challenge over at "Child's Play Challenges".

Here is the inspiration:

And my layout (click on image to enlarge):

 "Big Boy, Bigger Tree"
Journaling: "Joseph, 18, next to our 12 ft tree before the decorations. 12.8.13"

I was inspired not only by the Christmas theme but by the way the little boy is looking up
at the big train, much like my son is doing here, in the 2nd photo, at our Christmas tree.

I'm not in a very "bloggy" mood today, so I will just leave you w/ these final words:
You have until the end of the month to link up a project inspired by this challenge or the challenge we will present on 12.15.14.
Good Luck!

11/27/14 - "Get Messy" November Prompt

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I doubt anyone will be reading blogs today, but if you do and happen to read mine, today I'm sharing what I created for the "Get Messy" November Prompt.

The prompt was as follows:

Journaling Challenge - "Pick one word that describes you right now.  Just one word"

Art Challenge - "Play with the word you picked. Use letter stickers, cut out your word from magazines and create a collage,  write your word a hundred times on a piece of paper and use it as a background, use paint to write your word...the main focus should be on your word."

I wanted to pick a word that would allow me to write a blog post that was somewhat philosophical but when I sat down and asked myself the question "What word describes me right now?"  the answer was "hungry", LOL!
I started a diet 2 weeks ago and darn it if I don't feel hungry...ALL THE TIME!
UGH!
And that makes me kinda angry.
And when you put those two words together you get the word "Hangry".
So the one word to describe me right now is Hangry.

So my page was created with images from  the web, some washi tape I had in my stash and never used (love it!), and some journaling: the "Get Messy" prompt info and the amount of weight I've lost so far.

Thanks for stopping by!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go enjoy a little bit of stuffing and pumpkin cheesecake, my Thanksgiving faves, and a whole lot of water and try REALLY hard not to be "hangry", LOL !!

11/24/14

Happy Monday to you!
I'm not usually a fan of Monday's but since it's Thanksgiving week and I only work 3 days, I will make an exception!

I don't know about you but sometimes I feel like no matter how hard I try I cannot seem to get creative.
Other times I feel like the creativity is just pouring out of me.
This weekend was a good one creatively!
Despite being busy, I created 3 layouts: 1 on Friday, 1 on Saturday, and 1 on Sunday.

Friday's layout (click on image to enlarge):

"Did We Just Become BFFs?!"
Journaling: "The closest they've ever been w/out fighting. Panini walked up
to a sleeping Ivanna, gave her a few sniffs, and then settled down next
to her for her nap. 11.12.14"

As I was creating this layout I was thinking of what to title it and the line "Did we just become best friends?!" from the movie "Step Brothers" popped in my mind, so that's what I used.

Saturday's layout (click on image to  enlarge):

"My 39th B-day"
Journaling:
".Quality time w/ my husband
."Gone Girl" the movie
.Big Macs and Pumpkin Pies at McDonalds
.A visit to the Pumpkin Patch
.A Pumpkin Bundt Cake
= A great birthday!
10.27.14"
Flower Journal Spot says: "Photo Bombed Selfie LOL!"

As you can tell from my journaling, I love simple pleasures!

Sunday's layout (click on image to enlarge):

Journaling: "After the present opening we settled down to watch
"Rise of the Guardians" 12.25.13"

I used sketch #94 from "My Scraps and More":

On Friday, I also created a page for the "Get Messy" November prompt.
I can't share it w/ you just yet, but I will share a sneak peek:

I was able to do this along w/ my usual chores: a visit to the bank, laundry, dishes, grocery shopping etc...,  and the extras of: 2 Appts,  Christmas shopping, shopping for a new washer since ours died, helping my husband and my daughter re-paint her room, and picking out our Christmas tree:

It was a good weekend!

11/19/14 - Art Journal Pages 26 - 29

Hi!
Sometimes I feel like I talk or, in the case of my blog, write too much.
So today I will just get right into why I'm here: to share my latest pages:

"First Time Lotto Players
Just wanted to document the first time David and I played the lotto.
We didn't win...bummer!

"Just Keep Coloring..."
I mention in another post that I liked coloring so I decided to doodle some linked circles and color them. While I was coloring I kept repeating in my head "just keep coloring" in Dory's voice from "Finding Nemo" so I decided to write that at the bottom.

"1D - Cartoon Version"
This one is my favorite!!! I saw the cartoon versions of "One Direction" online and just had to draw them myself! The original artist, who was not cited, drew them much better than I did, but he/she still made them very cartoon-like, so this is a pretty good representation of the original...
When I showed my daughter she ABSOLUTELY LOVED it and could tell who they each were. Although how hard is it to tell who the last one is? He is the only blonde in the group: Niall!
Not to mention he is her favorite!
A little 1D trivia: Niall's not a natural blonde! LOL!

"My Mood Right Now"
Self explanatory .
I wasn't in a good mood and felt like "Grumpy Bear" so I googled and printed out his image, fussy cut it and glued it, along w/ a "frame" I made, onto my page.  I also doodled on him in blue to add some color.

Short and sweet, yes?
You're welcome! LOL
Thanks for stopping by!

11/17/14 - Project Life Cards on Non-Project Life Projects

Hello my bloggy friends and readers!
I hope you all are well!

The reason I am here to day is this:
If you read my last post, I mentioned how I like to use Project Life (PL) cards on my layouts.
I also shared this layout:

This made me curious as to how many other layouts I have used my PL cards on.

A bit of background for those who don't know:
1) I asked for and received Project Life supplies last Christmas with the plan to complete a 2014 Project Life Album  (never... completed... 1... page, DOH!)
2)  I am the Queen of Unfinished Projects (well generally any that are more than one page, LOL)

So basically the PL supplies were doomed to sit in my stash collecting cobwebs.
Right?
Wrong!

I took a break from scrapping in February 2014 and started up again in June 2014. Since that time I have created 28 layouts and of those 28 I have used PL cards on 12 of them...that's nearly half.
Some of the layouts I have used more than 1, such as the one above where I used 3 cards.

So I decided to put together a showcase of sorts of all those layouts and include the amount of cards used on each.
Some of these have been shared before.
(click on each image to enlarge):

1 PL card

2 PL cards

1 PL card

1 PL card

2 PL cards

1 PL card

2 PL cards

1 PL card

2 PL cards

2 PL cards

3 PL cards

I have used 1 on an  Art Journal Pages as well:

1PL card

Total Project Life cards used is 22.
Not bad for somebody who doesn't actually do Project Life.

As you can see I used them in a variety of was: as a journaling spot, as "pattern paper" layers, and as a title spot...sometimes even combining the techniques.

As I said in my previous blog post, I actually like it better than using patterned paper because there is less of a need to cut. In fact most of the time I don't cut at all, which also means less leftover or wasted paper.  Plus I find it is sometimes hard to cut into a whole piece of paper when I only need a small portion of it for my layout.

The only drawback that I see to using the cards are that unless you buy lots of different collections, the variety of each one is a bit limited.  The regular sized collections are a bit expensive but I did recently notice on Amazon that their are smaller kits available.
Guess what I put on my Christmas list?! ;0)

BTW - My PL album, "Sea Foam Edition",  and pack of Pocket Pages ARE collecting dust! I need to see if I can find someone to buy them off of me... at a discounted rate.
If you know anyone, have them send me an e-mail at VasquezDoreen43@yahoo.com.

11/15/14 - CPC: Hot Wheels

It's time for another challenge over at  "Child's Play Challenges" !
"Hot Wheels" is the inspiration:

I was instantly inspired to create a layout about the High School Graduation Present we gave our son: a car.....his first car (click on image to enlarge).

 "First Car"
Journaling: "June 3rd, 2014
Joseph's High School graduation day. We gave him his present: a
2001 Toyota Echo. We also put out a set of luggage as a joke"

When I bought the BG paper, I bought it w/ the thought of using it for a birthday layout...but I just loved the way it looked w/ the other pieces of this layout so I decided to use it here instead. I may buy another sheet though, because I really like the paper!
Besides the BG paper I layered 3 large sized Project Life Cards. I asked for the set last Christmas  w/ the thought of actually completing a PL album, but yeah, that never happened! The cards are coming in handy for regular layouts though. In fact there are times I prefer them more than using actual PP for my layering; no cutting necessary!  I'm thinking of getting another kit of cards some day, but only once I've put a dent I in the one I have first.
And just because I already described the way I created the rest of the layout, I'll just mention that besides the BG paper and PL cards, all I added was 2 Doodlebug stickers and some title letters and journaling.  There really isn't much to this layout, but as it always seems, the less I do the more I love it! That's not a good thing for my scrap stash though!

Hope your inspired!
Make sure to share your layout w/ us by the end of the month ( a few days before if you can)!

11/06/14 - Art Journal pages 23-25

I finally finished that Winkflash-Transfer-of-Photos project I had going on.
I'm so glad to be done w/ it!!
Unfortunately I found some of my photos had disappeared from the site and I don't have digital copies of them. Bummer!
Of the ones I notice missing...I have them printed out already.
So if I really want a digital print I will have to scan them.
Yay...another project! (heavy sarcasm if you couldn't tell)
And let's not forget I still need to organize the digital files I already had along w/ the ones I transferred over.
Lucky for me there is no time limit for that.
Maybe in my retirement years I can finish up, I mean what else will I have to do, right?

Anyway, enough of that!!!

Today I am sharing a few Art Journal pages I recently created.
After finally being done w/ the Winkflash project, AKA: "Project from Hell", I was itching to do something fun!

I created 3 pages in 2 days!
Okay, so I probably shouldn't get too excited... I mean they aren't all fancy-like and elaborate...
But I sure enjoyed making them (mostly)!

The first one didn't turn out at all like I pictured it in my head.
I had gotten some new templates and wanted to practice w/ them.  What better way to practice w/ them but in my Art Journal?!
Well practice I did and fail I did...well not completely, I mean it didn't come out the way I wanted it too but it's not a total disaster.
I covered up most of the mess w/ the picture.
I had no theme for the page but when I started seeing all the IG posts about voting, and stumbled across the "Vote Snoopy" photo,  I decided the BG would be a perfect page to document the fact that I have never voted in my life...

"Vote For Snoopy"
Journaling: "I have never voted. Perhaps I would if I could vote for Snoopy"

BTW IDK if you can tell but I covered the page in tape to help protect the facing page, because despite the fact that I let the page dry for 2 days, the misting still got on the other page ...booo!

The second page is just me playing w/ that stamp technique I told you about in a previous post.
I just love the way it looks and I wanted to have a page of it w/out anything covering it. As you can see I went a bit "stamp crazy"...but not only does it look good (to me) it's stress reliving to just randomly stamp all over a page! If you haven't done so, I highly recommend it!

And finally, page #3.
This was a result of me just feeling like I wanted to color.
Another great stress reliever!
I colored all the time when I was a child. My favorite coloring books were Barbie coloring books!
Anyway, I digress...

I pulled out my box of colored pencils and just colored away using different colors, with no rhyme or reason. When I wish finished I thought to myself how it reminded me of a rainbow. This then lead me to remember a quote (I know, I know...me and my quotes! ::roll eyes::)
I googled the quote and found a cute image of it and printed and cut it out.
I  journaled about how the quote fits in my life and adhered it to the page.
I then felt it needed just a bit more color so I outlined it in purple...
BTW IDK why I chose purple, I actually don't like the color but it stood out to me for some reason

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

Journaling: "My 'rain' is my job. My 'rainbow' is my comfortable, happy lifestyle"

I'm not sure if I've actually ever mentioned it on my blog before but I dislike my job.
But it does afford me to live comfortably w/ a quite a few luxuries here and there, so I suffer through it.
::sigh::
Anyway, I'll save more details about that for another day.
1. because I don't want to bring this post down, and
2. because I already wrote too much!

Okay, that's all folks!
Thanks for the visit!

11/01/14 - CPC Crossover Challenge

Happy November!
I'm here today sharing the latest challenge over at  "Child's Play Challenges".
Our current challenge is a joint venture w/ the "Pixels and Paper" Challenge Blog".

"Pixels and Paper" challenged us to use this photo as inspiration:

And "Child's Play Challenges" threw in a recipe of items to use as well:

gold
animal
something older than 1 year
3 patterned papers
bling

Sounds fun, right?!
Here's what I came up with (click on image to enlarge):

"Cute Christmas Cat"

And here is a breakdown of how I used the inspiration photo and  the recipe:
  • Photo Inspiration: the Christmas themed Jack-in-the-Box toy
  • Gold: Washi tape, gold heart brad, large bling swirl
  • Animal: Photo of our cat
  • Something older than 1 yr: the 2 Christmas Colored PPs (10 years old, which also happened to be scraps) and the black and tan square behind the title tag (3 years old)
  • 3 patterned papers: 3 Used
  • Bling: Heart brad and large gold swirl

I have to story to share about my layout:
First know...I hate gold! The color, the jewelry, and I most definitely would not use it in my scrapbooking!
So when I saw I had to use gold on my layout I panicked!
I didn't have anything gold in my stash as far as I knew.
Just in case though, I did a search. As I suspected, I found nothing.
Luckily my fellow CPC DT teammate and leader, Devra, sent me some items to use: the washi tape and brad were amongst those items.
When I finished my layout, and right before I uploaded it, I  decided to clean the scrappy mess off of my desk.  As I was putting my stuff away I came across the giant bling swirl.
Two questions popped in my mind:
1. How in the world did I not see this giant thing before?!
2. Why did I have this?
I know where it came from...in a box of scrappy items I won from a blog contest.
But why had I kept it? I would never use it!
Until now! LOL

Yup! Not only did I use it, but in the end it was the perfect piece to finish off my layout!
Funny how that happens!

Now it's your turn.
Whether you love gold or hate it...it's time to show us what you can do w/ it!
Don't forget to include the other items of the challenge and upload your layout before the end of November.

10/31/14 - Get Messy October Prompt

Hello and Happy Halloween!
Today is an exciting day for my family because my husband just LOVES Halloween and goes all out!
In fact he always takes the day off from work on Halloween to set up all the decorations we use to scare, errrrrr I mean, entertain the trick-or-treaters!
Cue the scary clowns,  muahahahahahahahaha!

Sadly I am at work... le sigh...
So I decided to write my blog post for the latest "Get Messy" prompt.
I am actually a day late w/ this..

October's prompt is Gratitude.
Here are the specifics:

Journaling Challenge: Gratitude. What are you grateful for? What aspects of your life are you thankful for, that you might be overlooking while being busy?

Art Challenge: Use visual examples for at least three things you’re grateful for. Photos/doodles/magazine cut outs/stickers/anything. SHOW us your gratitude!

Here is my page:

"Gratitude"

To make this, first I stamped a BG (more on that later in this post).
Then, using my computer,  I typed in bold the thing I am most grateful for in my life: my family.
Underneath I typed the names of the members of my family.  I included the fur babies because they truly are part of my family, even if they are not human!
And because I love quotes I used another one of my favorites that worked perfectly w/ the theme!
Next I used a stencil to help me draw a heart around the list I made.
I then cut the heart out and outlined it in red and glued it my page.
For the Art Challenge part of the prompt I printed and cut out and glued, collage style, photos of all my family members.
Finally a reference to "Get Messy" and it's October prompt was added to the top.

Okay back to my background...
I wanted to share how I made my background for my layout.
Ever since I used my roller stamp, I have had an interest in stamping (and you will probably be seeing more once I get back into the Art Journal swing of things)!
As you know I like to work on my Art Journal at work to help pass the time.  On the day I made this page, the only stamp I had on me was the before mentioned roller stamp but since I had just used it for my last "Get Messy" page, I did not want to use it again so... I got creative!

I used the bottom of a box of small binder clips as a stamp.
I still had my stamp pad w/ me, so with the box and a scratch piece of paper I did a practice run.
I loved it so much that not only did I not want to stop stamping...it was fun...I decided to use it as the BG design of my page. I then added some red outlines to each of the visible parts of the stamped rectangles to add some color.
I've already explained the rest of the page to you....so I guess that's it!

Hope you have a good Halloween!

10/25/14 - "When Life Gives You Lemons..." Scrapbooking Edition

Hi all!
Just wanted to stop by and share this layout I made...
and tell you why it makes me think of the quote "When life gives you lemons make lemonade".

First the layout..excuse the bad cell phone picture (click on image to enlarge) -

"Date Night: Jo Koy"
Journaling" "Jo Koy is my favorite comedian! His show at the Ontario Improv
wasn't only the first time we ever saw him live, it was also our first time there!"

Here's the story:

My "marquee" photo came out perfectly when I originally printed it, but then I got clumsy, as I tend to do (A LOT), and got adhesive all over it, UGH!!!! @#*#$
Yeah I could not save the photo w/out causing more damage to it, so I threw it away and reprinted it. When I reprinted it part of the photo came out a weird color (there is not supposed to be turquoise in the photo at all)...WTHeck?! So I tried to print it again and this time it came out pretty much ALL turquoise. Again I say...WTHeck?!
So after wasting 3 pieces of photo paper and lots of ink, I finally just embraced the weird imperfecion and made it part of my layout.  Lucky for me the turquoise the photo printer decided to print matched the turquoise top I was wearing, LOL!
As you can see I also used both 'flawed' photos and tried to do a cool layered effect, further making use of the offending items!
Finally I finished my page and then I realized that the photo of Jo Koy that I printed off of the internet has the wrong dates on it!  It doesn't have the date(s) of when we actually went to see him, but the dates of his shows, in the same location, the following weekend...
I had forgotten he did shows 2 weekends in a row and instead of looking for the advertisement w/ the correct dates, I just say that it was the correct location and printed it.
::SMH::

I tried not to beat myself up over it, and just move on, again thinking of that quote.
In the end, despite it's flaws I actually like the layout!
Also when I posted it on SB.com it got a great response and was favorited...
So I guess my lemons wound up making some darn good lemonade! LOL!
Now to figure out what the heck is wrong w/ my printer... :0/

Have you ever experienced something like this?
Please share!

10/17/14 - The Latest...

Hi All!
I hope life is treating you well!
Just wanted to stop by and say "hi" and share a few of my latest art journal pages and a little bit of what's been going on.
My first page was inspired by the fact that "October" is Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

"Find The Cure"

Besides the fact that it is an important cause, my mother is a Breast Cancer survivor.
That's why David, Madi, and I decided to participate in the Stater Brothers Charities Breast Cancer Walk this year.
We did the 5k and it was a lot of fun! Not only did we help raise awareness and money but we spent time together and it we did it while doing something healthy.
Unfortunately Joseph had to work.

Here's some photos from the event:

Before the walk started...

During...

Right before we crossed the finish line...

After we finished...

According to the an article I read on the internet: "this year’s walk brought in $475,000"
Awesome sauce!

The next one was to document the fact that I have gotten into the "Divergent" book series...thanks to my son.
We watched the movie together, and to be honest I didn't understand it all, so he suggested I read the book.
I did so, and I loved it; way better than the movie!

"Divergent"
I am currently reading the 2nd book in the series, "Insurgent".
In fact I started reading "Insurgent" on the same evening of the day I finished "Divergent"!
Unfortunately I have not been able to get through it as quickly as the first asI have not had a lot of time for reading lately...
I'll explain why later in this blog post.

This 3rd page was just for fun.
I love all things Peanuts and "I got a rock" is my favorite Charlie Brown quote.
It always makes me smile when I hear it:

"I Got a Rock"

I have slowed down on my Art Journaling, not because I am "giving" up or don't enjoy it, but because I have been working on another big project.  A necessary project... a not-so-fun project (also the reason I don't have a lot of time to read):

The photo site I store and order my photos from, Winkflash, is closing at the end of this year.
Not really a big deal because I also store/order my photos from other online processing websites.
What is a big deal is back when I started ordering from them, I didn't have an external hard drive.
As a matter of fact I didn't know a whole lot about digital photos or digital storage.
So I just used the online site(s) as my storage areas.
It's great because it's free!
It's not-so-great when they close down like this.
I learned about digital storing and hard drives, and all that "stuff" a few years ago, and for the most part have been really good about backing up my photos, but w/ the closure of Winkflash, I decided to compare what was online to what I have stored.
Because Winkflash was one of the first sites I used,  I do not have a lot of those photos on my hard drive.
So, for the past few months I have been using any downtime, which isn't a lot, to compare and download and save my photos...ultimately deleting them from the website.
W/ technology the way it is, you'd think, awwww...that's not so bad.
But here's my problem.
My e-mail address was incorrect in the Winkflash system, so I never received an e-mail on how to do it. I e-mailed them and called them but have received no response.  In fact it appears their phone number is no longer in service.  So what I have been doing is downloading and transferring each photo individually.
This is taking a lot of time since I have literally thousands of photos to save!
I don't know if Winklflash had a better system that they shared w/ their customers, of which I missed because of my incorrect e-mail address, but if they did, I sure wish I knew about it! The way I am doing it now is so tedious!
I have until the end of the year and I am happy to say that although I still have quite a few more to go through... I am almost finished.

After that is done, I REALLY need to go into my hard drive and organize ALL my photos into a better system.
I had thought of doing that anyway and had started when I found out about the Winkflash closure.
Luckily the organizing of my photos does not have a deadline...
But the sooner the better because I REALLY hate being unorganized!

10/15/14 - CPC: "Alice In Wonderland"

Last time I was here sharing my DT project for "Childs Play Challenges" I forgot to mention that the challenge schedule has changed.
We will now be posting challenges on the 1st and 15th of every month.
