12/31/16 - "I'm Not The Same"

Just a real quick post on this New Years Eve!

If you don't see me in real life or follow me on Instagram, then you don't already know I went blonde.
I decided after many years of wanting to do I to just finally...do it!
I started off slow and gradual, but by the time I went to my last appointment I was tired of "slow and gradual" and borrowed a phrase from Nike when talking to my hairdresser...
I told her "Just Do It"!
And she did!

Since this is the last day of 2016, I figure it was a great time to share a glimpse of all the changes my hair went through this year...
So here it is!

"I'm Not The Same"

The title came from a lyric in the song that was chosen for me in the SB.com "December Musical Inspiration" challenge.
The song that I was given was "Where Are You Christmas" from the life-action version of the movie "The Grinch".
As you can see I went very non-Christmas w/ my layout!

I also participated in the "Scraplift the Person Before You" challenge and this was the layout I drew inspiration from:

Well there you have it...
My last Blog post of 2016!
And my final scrapbook page count of 2016 = 68!
Not too shabby!
Happy New Year my friends!

12/19/16 MIM #77

I'm late!
I hate to admit it but I screwed up December's Design Team projects!
I got confused and I did the 2nd sketch for the month first instead of the 1st sketch.
This means I wasn't able to post anything for the reveal on 12/02/16.

Last Monday's post, 12/12/16, was for the second sketch of the month, but since I really love the first one also, and even though the reveal has already happened, I decided to create a layout w/ the sketch anyway!
I'm sharing it w/ you today.

First the sketch:

  MIM #77:

I created my layout w/ a flipped version of the sketch so let me share that w/ you so you have a visual:

12/12/16 - MIM #78

Make it Monday Sketch #78 is live over at the "The Memory Nest" Blog.

Her is the wonderful sketch you will be working with if you play along:

 MIM #78

And here is the layout I created... out of all Hoarded items BTW.
The newest scrapbook item on here (minus the file labels; date unknown) is from September 2013.

"Family Tradition"
Journaling: "Starbucks while picking out our tree. First time Joseph wasn't
with us; he was missed. 11/20/16"

It's a Family Tradition to go to the Christmas Tree Farm in November to pick out our tree.
We always include a treat either before or after the event.
This year we went to Starbucks on the way to the Christmas Tree Farm.
As you can see from our cold drinks, it was a hot day!

This is the first year our son wasn't w/ us.
At 21 years old, he has his own life now and isn't always around to do things w/ the family.
He was missed but we understood.
And it's something we will just have to get used to.

Looking forward to seeing what you create.
You have until December 31st!

12/07/16 - "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

Hello.

The layout I am sharing today was inspired by a few challenges...
One of them was the SB.com "December Scraplift Your Favorites" Challenge.

For those that don't know what scrap lifting is, here is a definition:

Now that you're all educated, it's time to share some layouts!

 * * * * *

First,  the original...the inspiration... created by 'Scrapanda' :

"Happy Days"
Link to the layout and her gallery:

And now...  my version:

"Baby, It's Cold Outside"
Journaling: Hamlet, warm and cozy inside on a cold December Day"
"Friday, 12.02.16"

I think the parts I lifted are pretty obvious so I won't go into detail.

It's been a while since I participated in the (monthly) challenge, and lifting such a wonderful original reminded me how much fun it is.
It's a great way to create without thinking too much and sometimes it forces you to step out of your comfort-zone, but in a good way!

Do you scrap lift?
I'd love to know and if you have any examples of it I would love to see also.
You can include a link in your comment.

And...
Just for FYI -
My layout was also heavily inspired by the following SB.com Challenges:

> December National ______ Day
  - - - 1 of the 3 challenges I'm hosting - - -
Inspired by December 3rd - "National Roof Over Your Head Day"

11/21/16 - November "Ugly Paper" Challenge

For the November Ugly Paper Challenge.

Reminder of the rules:

1. After signing up, the host gives your name and address to another participant
2. The other participant sends you 2 "ugly" papers and at least one ugly embellishment
3. You MUST use both papers; the embellishment(s) is optional
4. You are allowed to use other items as well, as long as the 2 "ugly" papers are included in the layout
5. You are allowed to alter the papers and, if used, the embellishment(s) but they must still be recognizable

November "Uglies"

This one was a toughie!
But here's what I came up with...

I am sharing 2 copies of the layout.
A blurry copy shot from high above w/ my camera so you can see the shininess of the papers.
And a scanned copy which is clearer but doesn't show the shininess.

"Get Away"

A photo of David and me from 2015.
We were drinking and being silly and he was taking a "selfie" of us and I decided to lean in for a kiss and he decided...
to make that face... LOL

I posted it on Instagram w/ the caption:
"Hey! Don't diss my kiss!"

I then used the caption for my journaling on this layout.

Oh, also I used the "ugly" embellishment...
Cutting off the "Summer" part of "Summer Getaway".
I used the "Getaway" even though it technically is incorrect for how I used it... "Get Away" ... I still think it works, as does the arrow.
I also cut a heart out of one of the papers to use as an embellishment.

TFL!

11/17/16 - "Sleepy Pig"

Hello!
Today I bring you layout creation #58 of 2016 (I've actually created 59 layouts so far this year; last blog post was layout #59).

Just some photos of Hamlet being sleepy and falling asleep.

"Sleepy Pig"

Isn't he adorbs!!! <3

Not much to say about this except I wanted to mention that I wasn't planning on using that corrugated patterned 12x12 paper...
The other side is much nicer:

But it works so well here!
I'm so glad I gave it a chance!!!

The other "main" paper I used was this one:

And I love it so much I may get another sheet plus some of it's "brother and sister" papers!
It's a great collection to have when one of your fur-babies is of the farm animal origin!

Thanks for stopping by!

"Mother's Day 2016.

There were other photos taken that day but I already used them on other layouts:

11/10/16 - "What's My Age Again?"

So I recently had a Birthday; my 41st.
Nothing exciting...
Definitely nothing like last year when I spent my birthday in Spain!
But it was a happy birthday nonetheless.

Here is a layout I created to capture the day.
It was created for the November Music Challenge over at SB.com.
Category #2 - Song Title.
I used a Blink 182 song as the title for my layout:

"What's My Age Again?"
Two sets of journaling; one for each photo -

Photo on left:
"Today I turned 41... Instead of being sad that I am another year older, I took the time
to really appreciate my life and all that I have:
An amazing husband, 2 wonderful children, 3 adorable fur-babies, a nice home, a job that
allows me a comfortable lifestyle, food and clothing, and the feeling of being truly loved!
Having all those things is the best present I could ever receive.
I'm truly happy and looking forward to what this next year brings me."

Photo on right:
"Tagged on IG for a "Stop, Drop, and Selfie".
The lighting is bad but this is where I "stopped and dropped" at the end of
my first day as a 41-year-old!
I'm tired, completely "food-wasted"... but happy!
10/27/16"

My birthday was on a Thursday.
I went to work as usual and then spent the evening w/ my husband at our local town's Market Night where I proceeded to get "Food Wasted".
I did have a birthday shot - Kahlua + Cake flavored Vodka - before hand so I was a little bit "wasted-wasted" too... LOL!

11/07/16 - MIM #75

Happy Make it Monday!
Over at "The Memory Nest" blog we have a new sketch for you to be inspired by:

"MIM #75"

Here is what I created:

"My Boys"
Journaling: "3 of my 4 Boys -
Hamlet, Joseph, and Spotty.
Missing? David
10.1.16"

Besides being inspired by the circles in the sketch, I was also trying to figure out a way to capture the colors Joseph was wearing.
I came across the BG paper and although the shade of blue was 'off' and it had way more colors than I actually needed I felt really drawn to it. In fact, as soon as I saw it I thought "Perfect!"
So before I went into "over-thinking" mode and talked myself out of using it, I created the layout.
And I'm glad I did because all of the colors along w/ the matching camera and camera/journaling card embellishment added such a fun feel to this layout!
The circle BG paper does make up most of the circles in the sketch but I added a couple more, cut from black cardstock, to add dimension.

It's no secret my fur-babies are as dear to me as my children so I wanted to convey that w/ my title.
Also I used one of my favorite scrap collections, Echo Park's "My Life", to help showcase the fact that this is a huge part of our lives; an "every day" moment.
And moments like this make me so happy!

Can't wait to see what you create!
You have until the end of the month to submit your entry!
Good luck, but most importantly...have fun!

"Snout Sunday: Popcorn Edition"
Journaling:
"Happy Snout Sunday! Wait, does this count since you can't see Hamlet's snout?
Finishing off Grampy's popcorn from Target, yummy! 12.27.15"

"Snout Sunday" is a popular hash tag on Instagram usually used for, but not limited to,  photos of people's pet pigs.

11/01/16 - "This Town"

Okay, so by now you all know I am a huge One Direction fan!
But did you know they broke-up?!
Well, technically not "officially" but they are all off doing their own thing, so even if they haven't "broken up" it doesn't look like they will be making music together any time soon.
As a 1D fan this makes me sad.
I follow them, each of them, except Zayn...cuz he's an ungrateful punk(!),  on Instagram so I see that they all seem to be doing really well moving forward w/ their lives and their own careers.
That makes it a bit easier to handle the break-up...
Then I found out that Niall, my favorite One Direction Member, has already released knew music...this made me happy and super excited!
(BTW, in case you're wondering...I'm 41 years old, LOL!)

I posted the Happy News to my Instagram account...
And since there is a "Music Challenge" at Scrapbook.com I decided to create a layout about my post.

Here it is:

"This Town"

Journaling - copied directly from my Instagram Account:
(mrs_david_vasquez)
"When you love a song SO much you make your first ever purchase on
@GooglePlayMusic.  Niall Horan, formerly of 1D, has released his first solo song
and it is absolutely beautiful! I cant stop listening to it and it literally brings tears
to my eyes every... damn... time! If you haven't heard it, you MUST!!!
Of all the 1D "boys" he is the one most deserving of success!
Good luck @niallhoran!

I decided to try a new journaling style and I love the way it turned out!

I took a screenshot of my caption, hash tags and all, from my IG post and printed it on photo paper then adhered the "photo" of my journaling under the photo of Niall; the same photo of Niall I posted on IG.
I love how neat it looks and how I didn't have to re-write/re-type my journaling.
Super quick and easy!
I'll definitely use the technique again!

This was for Category 3 of the Music Challenge: Artist
"Use the name of a band, group or solo artist on your layout...Can be in title or journaling"
*INCLUDES TWIST: paper clips*
I used a self-adhesive chipboard paper clip

Here is Niall singing his new song in case you've never hear it.
I hope you enjoy:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also included in the following SB.com October Challenges:
>Sticker
I used 4
-heart
-the large "This Just In" w/ radio
-"play"
-self-adhesive paper clip
*NO TWIST*

>Hoarders
All the items, except the paperclip, are over a year old
*INCLUDES TWIST of busy BG paper*

10/29/16 - October "Round Robin" Challenge

Good Evening (it's 6:21 PM here)!

Today I am sharing w/ you my creation for the Scrapbook.com "October Round Robin" challenge.
Here is a brief explanation of the challenge:

"There are teams of 4 people, one person for each week, similar to a relay race. The person assigned for week 1 in each group will start their team off with a layout depending on what the specs and twist will be. Then the following week, everyone assigned to week 2 will lift off their week 1 team member and so on. It's fun to see how a lift progresses from the first week to the fourth."

I was the 3rd on my team.

In order to get an idea of what inspired my layout I will share the proceeding layouts as well.
The first 3 images were NOT created by me:

Starting Inspiration:

Twist for the players = "Include in your embellies some kind of a critter."

Week #1:

Week #2:

My layout (includes twist):

"The Birds"
Journaling: "I look out my kitchen window and see this...
Panini and Hamlet both love this corner of our yard but for different reasons:
Panini because she loves catching/eating the birds that stop by for food
and Hamlet because he loves eating the food the birds drop. 10/16/16"

Here's a close up of the photo:

Since the photo was taken from inside my house, through a window, far away from where Panini and Hamlet were, it's a bit blurry but it is such a common part of our every day life I wanted to scrap it.
Not all photos will be perfect but that doesn't mean they aren't "scrapbook" worthy!

Also heavily inspired by the following challenges:

>Use your Stamps
I stamped the cat and pig (in the circles)
*NO TWIST* - No twist given

>Movie Challenge - Use a movie as inspiration
*INCLUDES TWIST* of using a Horror Movie as inspiration -

10/17/16 - MIM #74

Make it Monday #74 is live over at the "Memory Nest" Blog!

Here's the sketch followed by my take on it:

MIM #74

"Curly Hair Do Care"
Journaling: "I have naturally curly hair but prefer it straight.
10.15.16"

I've mentioned before I'm not good w/ triangles as a design element* so I decided to "follow" the sketch by using "triangle" patterned BG paper.
*see my post for MIM #67

The story behind these photos?
As much as I enjoy capturing special events, I also think it's important to capture the everyday; which is why I love the Echo Park "My Life" collection (here I used their "Saturday" and "Capture Everyday Moments" stickers)!
I thought sharing the fact that I straighten my naturally curly hair may be an interesting fact to future generations.
Or not... LOL!
Regardless it was a fun layout to make!
And the title came from the popular saying and hash tag "Curly Hair Don't Care".
I've actually used it myself on my curly haired photos but only the ones where my curly hair looks fabulous, because otherwise I "do" care!

Okay enough about me...
Please join us w/ your interpretation of the sketch; whether it be exact or just inspired by, we want to see it!
You have until October 31st to enter!

10/11/16 - Tennesse Tuxedo and Pumpkin Spice

Hi there!
Happy Tuesday...or is it Monday?
It feels like a Monday because I was off yesterday for Columbus Day.
Which means that today I'm happy, yet not.
I'm happy because I only have to work 4 days this week, but not because today feels like a Monday.
It's okay I have my 0 calorie/0 sugar Rock Star to get me through the day... #MondayNecessity

Today I bring you layout #51.
This layout was created for 2 challenges over at SB.com that I am actually hosting!

>"Food Challenge"

*NO TWIST, "Favorite Drink", since I already did that w/ my "National Coffee Day" layout (clickable link):

Here's a link to see the days (and the ideas) for this challenge: October National Days
My layout was inspired by "National Vodka Day" ...cuz alcohol.

10/10/16 - Layout #50

Well, I think it's definitely safe to say that my mojo is back, whoo-to-the-hoo!
This past weekend I made 2 layouts and the one I am sharing today is my 50th layout for the year!

"He's 21"
Journaling: "June 14th, 2016 - Joseph's 21st Birthday!
Dinner (his choice): Veggie tacos from Bakers and a Green Tea Frappuccino from Starbucks.
Cake: David-made, Peter Pan decorated chocolate mint cheesecake.
Gifts: Peter Pan car decal, "Now You See Me" DVD, lap top case, and a Star Wars themed lap top."

( Since my husband's name is David and he made the cake, instead of saying "home-made" I say "David-made".)

My son doesn't drink alcohol... at least not yet, so his birthday celebration was very low key, just like he wanted, plus he not only got a lap top as a gift but it was a Star Wars lap top and for a Star Wars "nerd" like him, that's major! So yeah you could say he was definitely a Happy Camper!

10/05/16 - "Selfies With Spotty"

Hello!
Blog posts 3 days in a row?!
I guess my mojo is officially back! ::crosses fingers::

Today I bring you a layout I created for the Scrapbook.com "Pet Challenge"

I scrapped my dog, Spotty...
But was not able to include the "twist".
No worries "twists" are optional!

"Selfies With Spotty"
Journaling: "When 'Selfies' w/ your dog doesn't go as well as planned...
I think we have a winner!
9.24.16"

Just me being silly w/ my dog.
I've mentioned before that Spotty inadvertently gets left out a lot and that I was going to make an effort to not do that anymore...
what better way than w/ a 'selfie" photo session, LOL!!!
Okay, I'm sure there's better ways, but it was fun!

10/04/16 - August/September/October Ugly Paper Challenge

If the title confuses you, let me explain:
These are my August Ugly Papers, which I wasn't able to complete due to lack of mojo (starting in July)...
So I was allowed to carry over to September, but due to my continuous lack of mojo that finally lifted a bit around the middle of September...I still didn't complete my layout in time.
So I completed and am now sharing in October.
Oh well, better late than never!

Here are my August "ugly" papers and embellishment(s):

August Uglies

And what I did w/ them:

"National Coffee Day"
Journaling:
"What?! National Coffee Day?! Sure I'll have some, despite
the fact that EVERY day is coffee day for me,
and I already had 2 cups this morning.
-A (regular) Vanilla Cream Frappe from Kahala Coffee Traders
280cals*2P/7F/55C/1Fiber
09.29.16"

I used both my "ugly" papers and 2 of the3 stickers (I wrote "coffee house" on the house sticker to fit the theme of my page).

10/03/16 - MIM #73

Good Morning to you!
It's Monday...and today's Monday brings you a "Make It Monday" sketch from The Memory Nest!
Why am I so cheerful on a Monday morning?
Well, cuz I actually wrote this blog post on a Saturday (so although my blog post is cheerful, since it's now Monday, I'm probably not, LOL)!
Also, because I actually like the layout I created!
This is a big deal right now because since July my scrappy mojo has been non-existent and I have only actually created 1 layout since then (as of this writing)...
and I didn't even like that layout.
So this layout and post is a big deal (for me)!

Edited to add: I have now created 4 layouts I like since this posting (which includes this layout)!
So maybe just maybe my mojo is coming back!

Without further ado...

MIM #73

"Happy 39th Birthday"
Journaling: "David's 39th birthday was on a Tuesday and we went to a local baseball game.
We ran into a couple of his mom's friends who were there celebrating their anniversary.
David mentioned his birthday and later his name appeared on the announcement board
under their names. What a surprise!
Thanks, Dave and Gloria!
August 9th, 2016"

We had a big celebration planned for my husband's birthday the weekend following, but for the actual day we just went to a ballgame; something he really enjoys!
It was such a coincidence that we ran into his mom's friends and that they were celebrating also.
And how sweet it was of them to advise the baseball staff to put his name up on the announcement board?!  I only wish I had thought of that... Oops! Bad Wifey! LOL!

Hope you can play along.
You have until the end of the month!

09/26/16 - "You Had Me At..."

Lookie!
I actually created a layout.
I should re-phrase that...I actually created a layout I like!
Only the second layout I have created in the past 2 months; the first that I've liked.

I created my layout for the following 2 September Scrapbook.com challenges:

-In This Corner
The challenge requires "the use of background paper that has a pre-printed design in one or more corners".
The swirls all over the side, corner, and bottom of the paper I used are pre-printed
*Includes twist of using something old and something new (if adhesive counts)!
All the items on here are old except for the adhesive which I bought 2 weeks ago.

- Food Challenge
(A photo of actual food is not required)
*Includes Twist of Scrapping "your favorite food or favorite type of food"
Mine is "Pumpkin Spice" flavored foods!

Here is the before of the "corner" paper:

Before ...............................

(This has been in my stash since 9/2008)!

After...................................

"You Had Me At Pumpkin Spice"
Journaling:
"Target find -$12.99
9.18.16 - My new favorite shirt about my favorite food:
Pumpkin Spice Everything!
#YUMMY"

Yes, I am one of those people.
I love Pumpkin/Pumpkin Spice flavored foods/goodies!
I look forward to Pumpkin/Pumpkin Spice Season every year!

If you want to see how bad my "obsession" is, check out my alternate Instagram Account (you'll have to scroll to see some of the photos I'm referring to):

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also for the following SB.com September Challenges:

-Hoarders Challenge
Like I said, everything on here is old. The BG paper is so old I can't even estimate when I bought it!
Everything else has been in my stash for (AT LEAST) a year.
*No Twist

-Sticker Challenge
I used 7:
-6 Alphas
-1 Pumpkin
*No Twist

09/19/16 - MIM #72

Hi!
I know I've been MIA for a while; I've even missed a couple of Design Team projects!
I've had absolutely no scrappy mojo and w/ Summer being so busy it was difficult to find time to scrap when the ideas weren't readily flowing...(plus my printer wasn't working for a bit ::sigh::).
I can't say for sure I'll be around much as my mojo is still pretty non-existent, for instance I'm not a fan of the page I'm sharing today, but I certainly hope I will be around more than I have been!

As for today, I bring you "Make it Monday" sketch #72 from "The Memory Nest":

"High School - 1st Day"

That's correct: Madi, my baby, is now in High School!
She started her first day w/blue hair and a smile... the blue hair will most definitely fade, but here's hoping that smile doesn't!

If you want to play along you have until the end of the month!

03/27/23 Planning with Urban Journal Season Ink

My printer was having issues and I fixed it but during the interim I was not scrapping and lost my mojo ::le sigh:: But I've still been ...
